The chemistry of the fall color is that, in fall the days are shorter and cooler. They slow down the production of chlorophyll in leaves. The disappearance of the green granules of pigments called carotenoids, which tint leaves orange and yellow. Moreover, upcoming cold weather leads to the production of red and purple pigments called Anthocyanins. As all these colors combine, they give the picture of fall foliage palette of great variety. All this change of weather is the specialty of state Virginia only.

The winter is not as very violent as the snow fall grows up to only few inches, which is manageable. The chilly cool breeze from the mountains becomes the reason of snowfall. The winter usually starts from November and remains till the mid of March. The highest recorded temperature in this climatic condition is 26 °F (−4 °C). Winter is dry and not much snowy therefore it is enjoyable and beautiful.

There are hardly any severe conditions of weather in Virginia. Hurricanes, tornadoes and cyclones are not so popular in this state. Annually two tornadoes occur but the coast line of Virginia is bit prone to hurricanes. As mentioned above that the weather status usually remains mild throughout the year. The history or the amusing story of Virginia is rich in context and vibrant in colors. It is chiefly divided into four main eras of historic and pre-historic times. Starting from 1775, the second span of time was from 1776 to 1860. The third was from 1861 to 1900 and the last one is from 1901 till the current time.

The Native Americans were the initial settlers of the state of Virginia thousands of years ago. In the era of colonization the English establishment was settled in 1607. They cultivated tobacco and achieved success by employing slave labor of the black populace. In the war for independence Virginia is known to have produced prominent leaders who worked as important catalysts in the movement. They include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe, and James Madison. Slave labor of the black community diminished after the revolution and the number of free blacks increased drastically.

Further developments in the state were created by opposing factions induced by the American Civil War. Abraham Lincoln ordered the forces to take possession of national property in Virginia, and thus it had to secede to becoming part of the Confederacy including the cotton states. Richmond became the new capital of the Confederacy. The Unionists opposed the decision and attacked Virginia in their defiance. West Virginia finally separated as a state in 1863, followed by the breaking of Richmond. This ended the Civil War.

After the war the states were weak and needed to be restored from scratch. As agriculture was the main means of economy production in Virginia it was relied heavily upon in those circumstances. It was not enough to sustain the state and provide business as well. Slave labor had ended but white Democrats were not ready to provide equal rights to the black community. After Reconstruction these Democrats passed out blatant laws that heavily discriminated against the blacks.

The efforts of the African Americans to salvage and reclaim their rights lasted from 1900’s to 1960’s. The law recognized their rights by passing civil rights legislation in 1964 and 1965.

The development of the state was helped by the construction of the Interstate highway. Virginia Beach became a thriving city attracting tourists. Along with World War II came the need to build the state’s forces. That and economic growth through industrial enterprises provided impetus to economic stability. Virginia was able to build the largest office building, the Pentagon.

Agriculture remained the economic source for a long time in Virginia. After World War II the requirements changed and adapted along with the changes in the world. The technological, consultancy and defense fields are rampant. But now, Virginia has grown great popularity for the richness of cultural and other activities not only among the Virginians but from the world at large.

Winter activities mainly involve skiing, ice skating and riding. But there are other activities too offered in snowshoe and other parks like ski cove in Shenandoah Valley, Charlottesville Ice Park, Chilled Ponds Ice Sports Complex in Chesapeake, skate quest in Dale City and many more like that. Winters of Virginia suggest snowmobile tours and snow cat tours. They are great to take pleasure which is available at Snowshoe Park. It is not necessary for you to go for skiing or skating if you are not fond of it. Apart from these light activities, Shenandoah obviously offers skiing and ice skating for amateurs and for professionals as well. The park remains open even 24 hours in winter but in case of slippery snow fall and dangerous wet track the parks’ gateway is closed in order to avoid any hazardous shock or fatal situation.
